Keeping in Touch

Where are the emails? The xmas cards? The bday wishes?
The phone calls? And the sms?
Is it true about what they say, that as you grow older, your friends confine with just that few?
I received a call from a friend the other day.
Saw the name flashing as the phone was ringing.
I held back and hesitated.
There was that reluctance to pick up the call.
Not that we've got grudges, I like that friend really.
In fact, we've not spoken for a while and would be good to update each other what's going on.
But it's been like that with most friends actually.
The reluctance. The hesitation.
I don't know why.
Maybe I'm just used to talking to that few friends. The comfort zone.
Or maybe what's happening lately isn't that great to mention.
Or maybe, I've got things I don't feel like talking about and wanna avoid.
Or maybe, I've given too much in the past.
Or maybe, I've just lost that zest.
