Taking Pride in (MY) Jobs (?)

You often find me saying this, that people do not take pride in their work. Take for instance the contractors fixing my toilet. It had been the 3rd time they have since hack the floor to patch the cracks (there were leaks to the storeroom downstairs). Three times, how bad can they be. I would expect such a simple job be done by the 2nd time they hack the bloody floor. You cannot imagine how frustrated it is. It's been 2 months mind you.

Yes, and this I blame them for not taking pride in their job. If they had, they would have found the fault from the very start. If they had, they would have did a thorough job and check from the beginning. Not till now.

When I'm out shopping or having meals, I expect good customer service. It's not an inhuman demand. Afterall, a service staff's job is basically to provide good service. You should be treating your customers with a smile, respect and serve them well. And if you don't enjoy what you're doing, then don't do it. No one's forcing you, so spare the agony of your customers. We want to feel welcome and not be treated nastily just because you're not into it.

On a ride back home with dad in his car this afternoon, it suddenly dawned upon me that I'll be starting work tomorrow. Thinking about it made me wonder, would I take pride in my job? Afterall, I've tried all means not to return to this field. And worse, doing something I find meaningless and definitely not something I'll enjoy. Would I be going to work with a bright, cheery face and be happy? I guess not. All I can say is, my version of taking pride in my job is to deliver, be efficient and be responsible.

I sense a tiring, heavy and hazy walk ahead. I will, yes I will, probably take it nice and slow ...
